 Basic information about the aim and objectives of Organisation

Objectives :

The Purpose of the Centre is:

1) To promote the study and practice of dispute resolution, with particular emphasis on negotiation, mediation, and arbitration

2) To promote the comparative, empirical and theoretical study of conflict and its resolution, in both domestic and international contexts

Areas of Expertise :

In order to pursue those goals, the Centre is actively involved in:

1) The research into conflict and the resolution of disputes The development of courses in dispute resolution

2) The promotion of a Visitor and Fellowship Programme, to encourage wider input into the Institute's and Faculty's work The support of students, the Law Faculty and multidisciplinary research in dispute resolution The development, in association with professional organisations, of standards for training, accreditation and accountability in mediation; and

3) The development of library resources in conflict studies and dispute resolution.

Brief Description of Activities : The New Zealand Centre for Conflict Resolution was established in early 1996, by the Victoria University Council with the funding assistance of the VUW Foundation, within the Victoria Law School.
